TERRA, AQUA AND VENTUS: Terra's role in this AU is similar to what happens during Birth by Sleep. He's coaxed by Master Xehanort to feed into the darkness, weaken Master Eraqus to the point Xehanort kills him in front of the boy, and eventually has his body and heart taken over by Xehanort as his Lingering Will remains in the Badlands. He is one of the people that Kairi has to save.
Aqua has changed just slightly. When she was in Radiant Garden, she met and protected Sora instead of Kairi from the Unversed. When she was guided by the light to Destiny Islands, she met Riku and Kairi who were playing together on the islands. After a brief talk with both of them, she passes on the power to Kairi via the Rite of Succession since she arrived to Destiny Islands before Terra had the opportunity to pass on the power to Riku and therefore had no reason to not choose a successor. Though fearing the worst, Aqua also placed a protective charm on Kairi's necklace so that should anything happen to her, her heart would find the light.
Ventus' story is pretty much the same, only that after the battle with Vanitas, his heart found its' way to Kairi in the Dive to the Heart and she decided to let him stay in her so that he'd be able to heal.
VANITAS: Vanitas is still Master Xehanort's apprentice and is the embodiment of the darkness from Ventus' heart. However, Vanitas isn't a male in this AU. Instead, Vanitas is female and takes on Kairi's appearance. She still wishes to create and forge the χ-blade with Ventus and is defeated by Aqua and Mickey.
SORA: Sora is one of the seven Princes of Heart in this AU and meets Aqua in Radiant Garden. It's not until a year later until his home is taken over by the darkness (once Maleficent and Ansem overrun his world with Heartless) and subsequently transformed into Hollow Bastion that he meets Kairi and Riku. When Destiny Islands fell to the darkness, his heart went to Kairi's and thus she had to free it from her's at the Grand Hall in Hollow Bastion. This act then created Xikari (Naminé) and Kazae (Roxas) while transforming Kairi into a Heartless temporarily.
Sora was not a happy camper when he was separated from Kairi and the others when the islands were being reconstructed to its former self, but he waited while Kairi fought against the members of Organization XIII (very impatiently) until they came back or he had a way to get off the islands (since the raft was ~*~mysteriously gone~*~). Yes, even when his memories of Kairi slowly disappeared and returned.
During the events of Kingdom Hearts II, Sora decided that enough was enough and he left the Islands when Axel appeared and that Dusk looked a little too friendly. He is an optional party member during both the events in the original game's timeline and the numbered sequel.
RIKU: Riku's role has somewhat changed that in this AU. First, he has been protecting Kairi all her life when they were on Destiny Islands. Secondly, there is no Donald to say he can't go with them on adventure time, so for a while, he does go with Kairi, Daisy, and Clara to see if what Maleficent said was true. They face the Opposite Armor together, and it's here that he reveals he can hold (and use) a Keyblade by taking Kairi's when she falls and is too terrified to fight, and finishes it off for them. He hands it back to her, and they leave for Agrabah--only for Riku to disappear after they take on the Pot Centipede. It is then that Jafar and Maleficent explain the situation to Riku and, realizing that Sora's in danger, leaves Kairi with the other two knowing they can protect her while he tries to save Sora. He doesn't exactly fight against Kairi, but tries to push her in the right direction and give cryptic clues that something is wrong and you need to fight.
Yet in doing so, he opens himself up to the darkness and is eventually consumed by it, possessed as in canon. Thus his heart wins, yet is sent off to the Realm of Darkness to help close the door. Everything else remains canon up until he has to fight Xikari to awaken Kairi.
NAMINE: Hoo, boy. Okay. Naminé's role is made more involved in this AU than in the original games. She's still Kairi's Nobody and all, however instead of being the one to erase Sora's memories, she instead is made the thirteenth member of Organization XIII and named Xikari. She has the capacity to wield the Keyblade, and eventually two at once after Xion's death.
Xion was found in Twilight Town by Xemnas, named and then left with Axel as he helped her get her bearings as a newly "born" Nobody. The two soon became friends, but when Axel was sent to Castle Oblivion after the various members taught how to function to their needs of her, she was then charged with helping another new member--Xion--get her bearings, too. The two became friends soon after, though she was never really sure of Xion's gender (what's gender differences?). Over the course of watching over Xion, Xikari realizes that they both can wield Keyblades.
It isn't long before she collapses and falls into a coma, however--Xion leaving seashells for her everyday when she wasn't waking up. During the time she was asleep, she dreamed of another girl in white...
Curious about these dreams, she began asking about them, but everyone would either wave it off or change the subject. As the days passed, this grew to bug her more and more. Especially since it was only after their first "day off" that she got any help in finding out about herself--from a boy named Kazane who she'd befriended in Twilight Town. They too became friends, and she ran off from her missions once or twice to speak with him since Axel wouldn't answer anything either when Xion started acting funny and she started feeling weaker. She ran away, but eventually was brought back only to finally have enough when the senior members of the Organization tried to get her and Xion to eliminate the other.
She resigned from a group of incomplete people who does not accept resignations with a Keyblade right to the X on Saix's forehead, but soon was forced into fighting and eliminating Xion. As she faded, she promised to help undo the damage they caused by collecting hearts, but was stopped by Riku and sent into the Data Twilight Town where she spent the last seven days of her existence. She appears one more time when she fights Kairi in a Dive Into the Heart sequence, but soon accepts her fate and goes back to her original self.
XION: Xion is a replica of Kairi made from her memories of Sora, meant to absorb the real thing's memories through Xikari. Zie, at first, looks like Sora with silver hair and Kairi's eyes, but as Day 357 draws closer, zie begins to take on Kairi's KH1 appearance.
Zie became friends with Xikari and Axel in the Organization, initially introduced as the "14th member" as in canon. Things went as they did in canon until the point where Kazane reached out to Xikari and they both fled the Organization, sometimes splitting up to avoid being detected with double keyblades across the worlds. They both try to avoid defeating Heartless and collecting hearts for Organization XIII until Axel drags them both back. Xion slowly begins to realize, however, that zir existence is having an adverse affect on Xikari's health... Thus Day 357 is a thing and Xikari is forced to end her as Roxas does in canon.
ROXAS: Roxas is still Sora's Nobody, but is named Kazane instead and known as a "warlock" with power over memories. He is an invaluable asset to Organization XIII and was crucial to the memory gambit in Castle Oblivion, rewriting both Kairi's and the Riku Replica's to include him and less of Sora's. However, seeing how much he "hated" it and how many times he tried to not work with what Marluxia and Larxene had planned, Axel let him go and try to fix what he'd done. When Kairi chooses to regain her old memories, he protects her with all his power as he sifts through the memories and learning about his original in the process. He's later joined by Xikari, who he became friends with after the Organization gave them a "day off" from missions. He helped her understand what was going on with her original self and trying to dissuade her from collecting hearts for Kingdom Hearts. This leads them to being on the run from the Organization together, sometimes hiding in the Old Mansion as Kazane tries to put together Kairi's memories until she and Xion are dragged back to the Organization by Axel.

Mickey compliments Kairi on how far she's come from the scared Keyblader she was and she gives her thanks for him saving them in Twilight Town. With this interaction, Kairi obtains Master Form from him and she reads his letter later on.
